What's Behind the Campaign?

As many graced the new campaign for the Phillipines' tourism, there are still those that disapproved the new slogan, "It's More Fun in the Philippines".

That campaign was stalled by the furor over an apparently plagiarized tourism logo and an official website that linked users to a Filipino porn site, and the early change of leadership at the Department of Tourism. Alberto Lim had just finished drawing up a five-year tourism program when he resigned amid reports that President Aquino was unhappy with his performance. Jimenez, whose forte is marketing, then worked on a new tourism strategy that has yet to be unveiled. The slogan and logo, however, have found their way to the internet.

Social networking sites are now abuzz with images depicting citizens' own take on what makes the Philippines "more fun".  Using their own photos from their own travels around the country and fun shots from the Web, people have been sharing their own images and taglines on the official "It's More Fun in the Philippines" Facebook page

After the launching of the new slogan, some recalled the slogan's similarity to Switzerland's 1951 tourism slogan (“It’s More Fun in Switzerland”), which led to a heated debate on the web. Because of that,  the hashtag #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines became a globally trending topic on Twitter and similar conversations began to surge on the social networking site Facebook, where dozens of fan pages were launched in dedication to the slogan. Soon, the official Facebook page became the hub site for the captioned images.

Well, DoT sure has captured many people on their new campaign. But the government is surely aware of the criticisms they would have to face huh
